The information on this page is designed to familiarize you with deliverance as it is ministered through God’s Army Ministries. Since 1982 God has shown Steven & Barbara Coleman many exciting truths in His word concerning deliverance. We are very much aware that the subject of deliverance makes some people uncomfortable, but when people come to us they are seeking answers that only God can give. They have tried other avenues without success. They are usually just sick and tired of being sick and tired. Each ministry session proves to be unique and exciting, as God unravels the enemy’s schemes. Matthew 10:8 says “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give. (KJV)

Love offerings are what support this ministry and make it available at no charge. While love offerings are very gratefully accepted, they are not required for your ministry/counseling sessions.

Read this material prayerfully and expect God to meet your needs during ministry.  Each person before being accepted for ministry MUST FILL OUT  A “PERSONAL INVENTORY WORKSHEET” (which will be mailed to you upon request), which has to be in one week before your sessions.

It is also a good idea to read “Liberating the Bruised” by Dr. Joe Allbright, available for $15.00 plus shipping and handling at:

1. SALVATION IS A MUST!

John 3:5-7

5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. (KJV)

The person receiving deliverance must be Born Again! Jesus said in “Mark 7:26-29” that deliverance is the children’s bread. To take an unbeliever through deliverance would be an injustice. The demons could return with seven more wicked than themselves. Then the latter state of the person would be worse than the first (Matt. 12:45). That is why the person has to have accepted Christ, and his or her life has changed for the better as a result of that decision.

Being sure that the person receiving deliverance is “Born Again” is the best assurance of eliminating the possibility of that person, being the one who opens doors that keeps demonic activity in his or her life.

2. DELIVERANCE IS RECEIVED IN FAITH THROUGH PRAYER

Jesus Christ is the deliverer. He paid for our deliverance with His precious blood. He has given us authority over our enemies through His name. James 5:16

16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. (KJV)

Healed in this scripture means to make whole. Not just the physical body, but the mending of the heart, most times through forgiveness; which leads to wholeness of soul and spirit.

3. FOUR PILLARS THAT SUPPORT THE PLATFORM FOR THIS SPECIALIZED TYPE OF COUNSELING

Before successful ministry can take place, Amos 3:3 must be met.  “Can two walk together, except they be agreed”.  If you have any questions about the ministry, write them down and be sure to get an understanding before we start ministry.

THE INIQUITY OF THE FATHERS PILLAR  (Exodus 20:4-6)

“Iniquity” is a lifestyle of the fathers passed down by three ways,  If you agree with the secular belief:

A.     Learned behavior
B.     Genes
C.     Ancestral demon

THE ANCESTRAL DEMON PILLAR  (Mark 9:1-32; v.21)

The Greek word for child in this particular passage is “paidiothen”  and it means “infancy”.

            THE DOUBLE-MINDED MAN PILLAR (James 1:2-8; 4:1-10)

The Greek word for double-minded is “dipsuchos”, meaning “double-soul” or   “split-soul”.

The Latin meaning for doubled-minded is “duplex”.

THE PROBLEMS OF DISASSOCIATION PILLAR (II Cor. 10:3-5)

Three possible ways with which some persons cope through disassociation when traumatic situations happen to them:

1.      They create a file or personality in which to store their emotions and memories of a bad event that has taken place in their life.
2.      They create a file or personality in which they store all their emotions but keep the memories.
3.      They create a file or personality in which they store all the memory of an experience but keep the emotions.

4. HEALING THE BROKENHEARTED, AND LIBERATING THE CAPTIVES

Since you are reading this paper it has already been established in your mind that Christians can be affected by powers unseen in the natural realm. The effects of these unseen powers can either be positive or negative depending on its source. It is also essential for you to know and understand neither Satan nor his evil demons have power or authority over born-again, spirit-filled Christians, except what we give them.

Look at the following scriptures:

1 Cor 10:13       here hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God
is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. (KJV)Gal 5:16  – This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. (KJV)

Col 2:6 –  As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: (KJV)

Col 2:9-10  – For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.  And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: (KJV)

So now we know we can be free of demonic activity in our lives. The only thing left to do is reclaim the ground given to the enemy, and kick him out! Satan temps us in our minds. A voice speaks in our minds, making ungodly suggestions. If we yield our listening mind, will, and emotions to him, he can gain further power in our lives to manipulate us. His goal is to kill, steal, and destroy, by luring us into sin, thus giving him more ground to stand on. Our defense is in the power of the Holy Spirit who sealed us unto the day of redemption. Satan can not take our salvation away, but he causes us to grieve the Holy Spirit, stealing our joy and confidence, and ultimately making our lives miserable. Believers need to practice listening to the voice of God, the Holy Spirit; that still small voice that warns us not to get involved with the activities that the enemy is suggesting. We know we can accomplish this because of Ephesians 6:12-18:

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers,
against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high
places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to
withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your
loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet
shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith,
wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet
of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto
with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; (KJV)

As you can see., we have been equipped to wage a victorious war against our enemy. This is where a mature brother or sister knowledgeable in the word and deliverance can help!

5. THE WHOLE OF MAN

To simplify matters, we will say that man, one whole person or being is made up of three parts: body, soul, and spirit. The soul and spirit actually being one, because after birth they can not be separated. These parts were knit together, I believe, at conception. The plan of God was to keep them knitted together until we leave this earth. Even after leaving this mortal body behind, our soul and spirit will remain together. There are any number of arguments that can be opened on this subject. It has been debated by bible scholars and theologians for ions. What I do offer is for you to take a look at Genesis 2:7.

And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his
nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. (KJV)

The physical body, the one formed from the dust of the ground, is the house where our soul and spirit reside during our life here on earth. After God breathes the breath of life, which is our spirit, (Pheuma), into our bodies, which I believe happens at conception, we then become a living soul. The soul area being our mind (intellect), will (self-determination), and emotions (feelings). This is why abortion is wrong. At conception, the whole of man is present in the design God planned for that person.

6. WHERE THE EVIL INVADERS CAN SQUAT

Taken from Dr. Joe Albrights book, “Liberating the Bruised”:

Mankind is born totally depraved, having the Adamic nature (Rom. 5:12). That means he has a fallen mine, a fallen will, and fallen emotions, all of which make up the soul of man.
Within our mortal bodies, our soul’s mind, will, and emotions function together as a whole; thus, these are the only areas susceptible to invasion and possession by evil spirits. God says of us, :…as he thinketh in his heart, so is he”. (Prov. 23:7), and “…Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, Why think ye evil in your hearts?” (Matt. 9:4). On what and on whom we choose to fix our mind and heart determines whether or not the demonic can invade them.

When a person gets saved, they make a conscience decision to accept Christ with their soul. The mind, will, and emotion receive Christ after repenting; thus being sorrowful and turning away from their sins, and realizing Christ took all their sins on the cross and shed His precious blood for them. Jesus died for them, having disarmed principalities, and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it, and paid the penalty in full with his death, for every sin that they have or ever will commit. Then after believing on and accepting Christ the person becomes a new creation, with a “NEW SPIRIT” from God Himself.

“And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he
made alive together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses” (Col. 2:13). He
will be blessed with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, with God’s teaching and
guiding him into all truths. However, he is not a programmed robot, for he still has
his old mind, will, and emotions. He can choose from which mind, will, and emotions
he wants to operate. Hopefully, he will choose to put on the new man and put off the old
man (Eph. 4:17-5:1) [Dr. Joe Albright/ Liberating the Bruised].

7. SPIRIT BODY AND SOUL

The following are illustrations taken partly from Dr. Joe Albright’s book “Liberating the Bruised”. Perhaps they will shed some light on the often confusing issue of how demons gain entrance and affect the body and soul. This will be necessary to understand what takes place in some deliverance sessions when dealing with the ancestral demons (Strongman) and/or lifestyle demons, flip-side and/or fragmented personalities, demon-produced personalities, and/or demons masquerading as personalities. All of these can take up residence in the soul area and will be discussed in detail later. This explains why we see some people who get saved still walking, most of the time, in their old lifestyle. Until these deeply embedded strongholds are dealt with in their soul area, the person can be manipulated and controlled by demons or their own evil conscience. Examine the following illustrations carefully keeping in mind

1 Cor 3:16Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you? (NIV)

[Outer Court = The Body]

[The Inner Court = The spirit of man]

[The Holy Place & The Holiest of all = man’s spirit & The Holy Spirit together after being Born Again]

12. RESTORING OF THE SOUL

Have you ever asked yourself any of these questions?

  • Why have I struggled with the same problem or problems for years?
  • Why am I not being delivered?
  • Why after being delivered, I am not seeing the fruit of my deliverance?

If you have entertained any of these questions, you may have an enemy in the camp!  This enemy is sabotaging your efforts to be released from the bonds of darkness.

LOOK AT THE FOLLOWING SCRIPTURES:

Matt 12:29 – Or else how can one enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.  (KJV)

Luke 11:21-22 – 21 When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace:
22 But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armor wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.  (KJV)

The first order of business is to bind the strongman or strongmen (note there can be more than one)!  The strong man is a spirit, be he an ancestral demon, a rebellious/flip-side personality, or the person themselves (in some rare cases).  He must be identified and dealt with in order to take back the ground thus stripping him of his armor.  I believe then, and only then, can a person be liberated from the bonds of darkness with everlasting results.  Keep in mind, the person who is delivered must take responsibility to walk out their deliverance.  Remember the man healed at the pool of Bethesda in John 5:14.  After being healed, Jesus told him to go and not habitually practice sin again, lest a worse thing come upon him.

13. ANCESTRAL DEMONS

If he is present, he is standing quite possibly on ground given to him by ancestors.

Deut 5:9 – Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me, (KJV)

Iniquity here speaks of something more than sin.  It is talking about being ungodly to the point of living without God.  Godless in thoughts,  actions, practices, and heart.  Ancestral demons can be identified by problems evident in your heritage.  For example, alcoholism is present in your great grandparent, grandparents, parents, brother or sisters, children, and so on.  Illnesses such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart problems, cancer, or others being present in your family tree, does not automatically mean demons are causing them; but if you can recognize patterns like these in your family; it is a good chance an ancestral demon or demons are present and working these things out in your life.  Praise God for the cleansing blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who has already defeated the enemy.  Now it is left up to us to demonstrate Satan’s defeat by applying the knowledge reveled in His word.  Before dealing with the strongman, we must first bind him.  This is partly accomplished by completing the next segment first.

14. THE TRAITOR  IN THE CAMP

It would be most difficult to bind the strongman if he has an accomplice hiding in the camp.  One such accomplice could be a rebellious/flip-side personality or personalities resulting from a shattered soul.  This personality may have been created during a traumatic experience, as a coping mechanism.  People who have been victims of satanic ritual abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, and the like, sometimes create personalities to deal with situations that are too much for them to deal with.  This other personality, I have found most times to be angry with God, wondering why does God allow these things to happen to them.

Scripture reference for the Shattered Soul or Flip-Sid Personality:

James 1:6-8 – But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.  7  For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord. 8  A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways. (KJV)

Double-mindedness or shattered souls need to be put back together in order to prevent the enemy from reclaiming ground.  This ground gives him the legal right to demonize or possess a person’s life.  The person whose soul has been shattered may have deeply embedded within themselves a personality that is angry with God!  This part of the person is rebellious against God.  In this rebellious state, he continually gives ground to the enemy!

James 4:8  Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double-minded.  (KJV)

The double-minded part of a person or personality if you will, has to draw nigh to God.  In other words “Repent!”  His heart being purified by the only power that cleanses: “The Blood of Christ”!  The person must be restored.

RESTORE MEANS:  “He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in path’s of righteousness….”(Ps. 23:3).

The Hebrew word “Shub” means to turn back or return, as a soul which has gone away from God.

It also means to bring back to the source of health and refreshment, that life which has become weary and faint in wandering in the wrong direction.

RESTORE: Also means Return, Backsliding. “Return thou backsliding Isreal, saith the Lord, and I will not cause mine anger to fall upon you…”,(Jer. 3:2, 22,and 4:1).

BACKSLIDING:  Hebrew word shobab which also means to refresh, comes from the root shub, which means to return or to comvert to a person or things-1Kings 8:33-39.

UNITE: ”Teach me thy way, O Lord:  I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name” (Ps86:11).

UNITE: ”Hebrew word Jacbad means to knit together it signifies simultaneousness.”  Ps. 4:9.  Indeed this was a confluence of blessings that a man may lie down to rest and also enjoy peaceful sleep.  It also means same-mindedness.

Looking at the above scriptures we see the bible has much to say about restoring the soul.  Deliverance is a much-needed ministry in the body of Christ.  Even more, needed are people who are willing to love the way Christ taught us to love.  In doing so His mercy and grace are exemplified here on earth!
